Welcome to Haven Craft Workshops.
New for Autumn 2020
The Covid crisis is still continuing to affect our daily lives, so for the time being my workshops will not be running at Hunters Moon.
Instead I have planned some virtual group workshops this autumn. These will take place via Zoom or Facetime, initially no more than 3 students in attendance. I want to be certain that changing to a different method of teaching provides you with the best possible tuition despite it NOT being in person!
Using my teaching skills (worked in education for 8 years) along with crafting skills, I will tailor-make the course to suit your level of ability, but with the option for learning more advanced skills. If you prefer, I run 1-1 sessions at a cost of £15 per hour. Please get in touch for details if this suits you better.
You can book on a workshop by emailing email@example.com. Payment can be made via Paypal or bank transfer. Gift vouchers available too! They make the perfect gift for craft lovers. Prices apply for 2020 and may be subject to increase 2021. Vouchers purchased for workshops this year will be valid until the end of 2021.
Back to Basics – Virtual 1-1 sessions only
Are you new to machine sewing? Maybe not used a machine for some years, and need to gain confidence again? This 1.5 hour one-to-one session will teach you all you need to know for basic sewing projects and include useful tips. The advantage of a 1-1 session means we can focus on your specific model of machine rather than a generic group class. It also means we can give time to any issues you personally may have with your machine. To book, contact me with convenient times/dates and details of your sewing machine, so I can prepare in advance. Cost £35.
I love my vintage Singer purchased from a bric-a brac stall at a village fair in Dorset. It’s served me well, but my sessions will be for newer models only please!
Do you have projects of your own*, but sometimes wish you had someone to hand for advice when you get stuck? If so, join me virtually on Sewing Sunday – one Sunday each month for you to work on your own project, with me close by for advice & tips along the way!
Cost – £10 per hr or 2-hrs for only £16 (this can only run at this price with the maximum number bookings).
*Please note – if you have something more complex such as Roman blinds, this would need to be run as a one-to-one session, but could be run on a Sunday.
Needle Felting Fun
Themed needle felting for beginners 2-hr session to make a range of felted projects. For this session you will need to provide all materials in advance of the session. More info on request. Forthcoming sessions will be shown in my calendar at the bottom of this page. Cost of workshop £20.

Quilted cushion cover, a throw for sofa or bench or cot quilt.

Week Two: 3 hours
Week Three: 3 hours
Time is given between sessions to work each section of your project.
Learn how to read a dressmaking pattern & make a toile
Do you struggle to read sewing pattern instructions? Panic when you unfold the delicate tissue paper pattern wondering where to begin! Book a 1-1 session to learn how. Before beginning your project I can advise you the best pattern to choose & take you through the method step by step. Cost £18 per hour
It is beneficial before making an item of clothing, to produce a toile (sample garment) before you begin working on your chosen fabric. This way you guarantee the best fit. If you would like to learn how to make a toile, get in touch to book a 1-1 session. Cost £18 per hour.
Festive virtual workshops
During lockdown many of us took advantage of the time we had to begin new hobbies or crafts. The ones which came immediately to mind were baking and gardening. With this in mind, I have designed two workshops for the autumn to make gifts. Or make for yourselves!
Saturday 24 October – Join me in my workroom to make this lovely crossover apron! A perfect Christmas gift.
This workshop will run between 10 am and 3 pm with short periods off-line to complete sections of the project and also stop for a short lunch break. This project is for confident beginners & intermediate sewers. You will learn how to bind a neck edge and have the opportunity to insert side pockets. These useful skills are great for building confidence for dressmaking. The cost of this workshop, including pattern & postage (£10) , instruction leaflet & tuition will be £40.
Pictured above in a soft denim fabric, but this can also be made from cotton, cotton drill, chambray (as picture below) or linen.
Sunday 25 October – Join me for this virtual workshop to make a garden apron. One size suitable for all. The workshop will run between 11 am and 3 pm with short lunch break half-way through. Cost including pattern, postage & instruction leaflet. £35.
Pictured here in grey dry waxed cotton, but can be made from cotton drill/twill or any strong cotton fabric.
To book, please contact me (firstname.lastname@example.org) AT LEAST a week before the date of these workshops & no later than Sat 17 October, to allow me time to prepare and post your pattern and instruction leaflet in readiness for the day. Thank you!
PLEASE NOTE: WORKSHOPS CAN ONLY RUN WITH THE MINIMUM EXPECTED NUMBER ATTENDING.
