Update Spring 2023

—————————————————————————————————–

Instead I have planned some new virtual group workshops for this summer/autumn. No more than 3 students in attendance as I want to provide you with the best possible tuition despite it NOT being in person!

Using my teaching skills (worked in education for 8 years) along with crafting skills, I will tailor-make the course to suit your level of ability, but with the option for learning more advanced skills. If you prefer, I run 1-1 sessions at a cost of £15-20 per hour. Please get in touch for details if this suits you better.

You can book on a workshop by emailing rebekah@flaxandloom.co.uk. Payment can be made via Paypal or bank transfer. Gift vouchers available too! They make the perfect gift for craft lovers.

Prices apply for 2021 and may be subject to increase 2022. Vouchers purchased for workshops this year will be valid until the end of 2022.

NEW SUMMER 2021 virtual workshops! Scroll down to see what’s coming up

Back to Basics – Virtual 1-1 sessions only

Are you new to machine sewing? Maybe not used a machine for some years, and need to gain confidence again? This 1.5 hour one-to-one session will teach you all you need to know for basic sewing projects and include useful tips. The advantage of a 1-1 session means we can focus on your specific model of machine rather than a generic group class. It also means we can give time to any issues you personally may have with your machine. To book, contact me with convenient times/dates and details of your sewing machine, so I can prepare in advance. Cost £35.

I love my vintage Singer purchased from a bric-a brac stall at a village fair in Dorset. It’s served me well, but my sessions will be for newer models only please!

Learn how to read a pattern & make a toile

Before beginning your project I can advise you the best pattern to choose & take you through the method step by step. Cost £20 per hour

It is beneficial before making an item of clothing, to produce a toile (sample garment) before you begin working on your chosen fabric. This way you guarantee the best fit. If you would like to learn how to make a toile, get in touch to book a 1-1 session. Cost £20 per hour.

During lockdown many of us took advantage of the time we had to begin new hobbies or crafts. The ones which came immediately to mind were baking and gardening. With this in mind, I have designed two workshops to make as gifts or make for yourselves!

Make an apron

Join me in my workroom to make this lovely crossover apron!

This workshop will run from 10 am-2 pm. This project is for confident beginners & intermediate sewers.

Bind a neck edge
Insert side pockets (optional)
These useful skills are great for building confidence for dressmaking. The cost of this workshop, including pattern & postage (£10), instruction, leaflet & tuition will be £40.

New online for 2021

Make a pair of lounge/pj trousers

Lazy Sunday mornings are for chilling in comfy clothes. I have designed this workshop for beginners/intermediate to sewing.

For beginners I can provide you with a template. For confident beginners I can teach you how to make from your favourite existing pj trousers making your own template. They make a great gift for friends and family too!

I have a selection of workshops to choose from:

Beginners:

For those who don’t feel confident to make their own template, come to my half day workshop and with the use of a provided generic template (PDF or hardcopy) I will teach you how to make a pair of pj trousers.

Online session will run 9.30 am – 1 pm £35 includes guidance notes & PDF, which you will need to download and cut out prior to the workshop, or a hard copy of the template for additional £6.50 inc. postage.

Confident beginners/intermediate level:

For those with more confidence, sewing experience or just keen for a challenge!

I will be running a morning session to:

  • Make a template from an existing pair, so you have this for future use.
  • Learn about alternative seams (felled or French seam) along with other sewing tips

Online session 9.30 am – 12.30 pm £35

An afternoon session to:

Make up your pj trousers from the template you have prepared and one of the seam techniques I have shown you.

Online session 1.00 pm – 3.30 pm £25

Cost includes guidance notes to make your trousers.

Please note – I can only run the workshops at these prices with required minimum number (3) attending.

I also run 1-1 sessions. Prices for 1-1 online sessions cost £15 per hour.

Mini Makes!

The first in a series of making baby/toddler clothes begins August 2021.

The techniques learnt will be useful for making adult clothes too and will add to your sewing confidence.

Workshops will include:

  • Rompers in the style pictured
  • Baby moccasins

If you have a new mini member of the family, why not join me to make some fun clothes for tots. There will be a range of items I will be making over the coming weeks/months. Some more suitable for beginners.

If in the meantime you would like further information or would be interested in provisionally booking a slot press the button above to message me.

I have just bought a Silver 1040 from C&H Fabrics and the lady who served me (Jan) recommended you. I need a basics course as I have no idea what I am doing. Please could you let me know when you are running a basics course. Thank you.
